What is Compliance?

To explain it in utterly simple terms FSSAI product compliance is the procedure by which the applied food product complies with all of the specifications listed in the FSSAI's directives, regulations, and standards. The FSSAI guarantees that the citizens of our country consume safe and sound food.

What is the Objective of FSSAI?

The prime objective of FSSAI is to maintain the safety standards on consumables items in India. FSSAI demands all the food business operators follow certain compliance set up by the body.

Every food business operator is required to obtain an FSSAI license to start farming, manufacturing, selling, retailing, and labeling relating to the food business.

Universal Standards for Food Industry Operators.

The FSSAI requires every food operator to comply with the following checklist:-

  • The food products should not contain any additives or chemicals which is not in the guidelines of FSS

  • Heavy metals, additional impurities, or toxic substances that occur naturally are not permitted in food

  • The remains of pesticides, antibiotics, drugs, insecticides, veterinary solvents, and pharmacologically active substances should not be there in the food

  • No food operator shall issue or produce any novel foods by the FSS Acts' Additionally, it prohibits the distribution of organic, functional, irradiated, and health supplement foods as well as food used for special diets.

  • The packaging of the food shall contain all the necessary information that is required and it should not contain anything ambiguous and it should be written in Hindi, English, or Devanagari script

  • Nobody may sell the pre-packaged food label separately from the container, according to the Food Safety and Security Act of 2006 (FSS).

  • The information that is being printed on the labels should be readable and bright so that the consumers can fully understand

It must be noted that there are 320+ checklists for obtaining food product compliance in the fastest way through minimal hindrance. The list stated above is just a few of those 320.

Why is FSSAI compliance necessary?

FSSAI compliance is a crucial and necessary step for food business operators. This compliance ensures the consumers that the food they are consuming is safe for human consumption and has no adhesives in it. It also indicates that the product manufactured or imported complies with FSSAI standards. It is necessary for the food business because ensuring compliance will help them avoid any unnecessary legal hindrance
